Rain is never something you hope for on your wedding day. A warm sun, bright flowers, and a calm breeze may be something you hope will happen but definitely not rain. Especially not HURRICANE forced winds and rain that comes at you sideways. And once you know it will absolutely rain on your wedding day the best course of action is to EMBRACE it. Rain doesn’t have to be a huge damper on your day. You just have to recognize that it may not be exactly like you pictured it would be.
While the weather threw a lot of curveballs and changes to their wedding day, Chadwyck & Emma handled it all with such grace. From having to change where they did their first look to Union Station in D.C. to wedding guests whose flights were significantly delayed and everything between. These two remembered the most important reason they came together on this wedding day; to marry their best friend.
When we first chatted about their wedding day a few months ago Emma shared that she wanted her wedding day to be elegant and feel like one big party. And those two things were absolutely felt on their wedding day. The church was traditional and made you feel like you were transported to Italy in the 1700’s and the Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C. felt like you had been invited to one of Grace Kelly’s magnificent manors. It was full of color, life, and love.
One of my favorite parts of their wedding day was at their ceremony. While the piano played and the violin bowed the voices of all those who attended lifted their voices in song with the words “Be Thou My Vision”. The acoustics of the church made you feel surrounded by all of the voices and it was as if 100’s of people were singing! It was really magical.
At their reception they delighted their guests with a live piano player as they came into the reception with two stories of places to explore! For dinner they served tacos and brick oven pizza which was not only delicious but SO THEM. It was elegant and fun! And to top it all off the bride surprised a groom with a cake and a sword to cut it with. I can honestly say that using a sword as a cake cutter was first for me.
Congratulations to Chadwyck & Emma on a beautiful day at their Washington, D.C. Wedding ! Thank you for trusting me with an unexpected rain day and for embracing and, literally, dancing in the rain!
